Schwarzhoff Lofts breeds and selects pigeons for partnerships at auctions, and independent sale events in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Belgium and Massachusetts. Most of our racers are Cape Cod-bred, in our own lofts. Our partnership birds begin their racing career at our Lofts on beautiful Cape Cod, MA. We invite you pay us a visit if you are ever in the area.
This year we'll be following the annual circuit from New England to Las Vegas down to Texas and back. We will ship the best athletes across the Atlantic to get purse money with pigeons.
If you are not familiar with Pigeon Racing, you may be in for a suprise. These are Thoroughbred Racing Pigeons, not the feral varieties we have in the cities. (Feral means "Having returned to an untamed state from domestication. ") Racing pigeons are strictly pedigreed, the product of many years of careful breeding. Here you will be able to learn about how you can become a Racing Pigeon owner and race pigeons here the United States as well as all over the world in competitions where purse winnings can range from $10,000 on up to $1,000,000. The average purse of the races we enter is $30,000.
The homing pigeon is a specifically bred variety of pigeon, unlike the feral pigeons which plague most cities. The breeds which are trained for racing are often referred to a "Thoroughbreds of The Air" or "Racehorses of The Sky". These are apt names, for racing pigeons are truly remarkable athletes when properly bred and trained for the rigors or long distance racing over land and sometimes even sea. Racing-Homing pigeons are pedigreed and can cost upwards of $250,000.
Presently (2005) Schwarzhoff Lofts is breeding and training some proven, (oldline) champion bloodlines obtained from Belgium and France, which are showing some very promising traits. (Janssen,Van Reet,Staff Van Reet,Van Loon) These thoroughbred racers will be formally unveiled on this site within a few weeks, so please come back to review.
In the United States there are two primary national racing pigeon organizations. The International Federation of American Homing Pigeon Fanciers (IF) is the oldest, with approximately 3,500 members, and is geographically concentrated on the east coast but has clubs in the other sections of the country. It allows it's clubs to develop their own sets of local race rules. The American Racing Pigeon Union (AU) is the younger, has over 9,000 members in all 50 states. The AU's philosophy is more centered on uniform race rules under which all of its members participate.
Hopefully you will become interested in our world of high stakes sporting, the worldwide sport of Pigeon Racing and above all, having fun at it.
